Medu Vada | Authentic South Indian Dish is a yummy breakfast or snack.

Medu Vada | Authentic South Indian Dish requires black gram batter. The curry leaves and green chilli gives a nice taste to the vada. The Vada is generally served with sambar and chutney. This is a popular breakfast option across India. It is a very quick and easy dish to prepare except for the soaking of black gram. So, try it out.

This yummy dish is made by A 84-years-old Grandmom – Sunanda Prabhu from Mangalore, Karnataka.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • Have this Medu Vada with Coconut Chutney | South Indian Special,  Vegetable Sambhar Recipe.
  • Add curry leaves, green chilli and salt to the batter just before frying the vada.
  • Wet your hands to get the nice shape of the vada.

Ingredients

  • Urad Dal/Black gram without skin - 1 Cup
  • Green Chilli - 1 finely chopped
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Oil - for frying

Instructions

  1. Soak the urad dal in enough water for 2 hours.
  2. Drain the dal completely. Grind it to a smooth paste without adding water.
  3. Take it out in a bowl.
  4. Heat oil in a kadai.
  5. Add salt, chopped green chilli and curry leaves before making the vada. Mix well.
  6. Wet your hands and take a small portion of the batter. Make it round then make a hole in the centre.
  7. When the oil is hot, fry the vada on a medium-low flame. Once it turns light brown in colour from one side flip it. Cook from another side until light brown.
  8. Once done, transfer to a tissue paper to soak extra oil.
  9. Yummy 'Medu Vada' is ready to be served with coconut chutney or any type of chutney.
