Bisibele Bath is a traditional South Indian meal and very delicious.

Bisibele Bath or ‘Sambar Rice’ is a mouthwatering dish from the cuisine of Karnataka. It requires rice, split pigeon peas, green peas, coconut, tamarind, special masala, jaggery. This tastes delicious with the vegetable raita. Moreover, this is an awesome combination and favourite of all in South Inda. This is the most lovable food for travelling as well. This tastes sour, sweet and salty at the same time. So, try to make this old age recipe at home and enjoy with family members.

Ingredients

  • BISIBELE BHATH:-
  • Rice - 1 Cup
  • Toor dal/Split pigeon peas - 1 Cup
  • Ghee/Clarified butter - 1 Tablespoon
  • Oil - 1 Tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Boiled peas - 1/4 Cup
  • Fresh Coconut (Grated) - 1/4 Cup
  • Corinader leaves - a handful
  • Jaggery - as per taste
  • Tamarind paste - 1 to 2 Tablespoon
  • Rock Salt - as per taste
  • BisIBelE Bath masala powder - 2 Tablespoon
  • FOR TADKA:-
  • Oil - 1 Teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Heeng/Asafoetida - a pinch

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the rice for 20 minutes.
  2. Wash the dal. Cook it in an open vessel. Add turmeric powder while cooking to it.
  3. Once the dal 3/4 cooked then add soaked rice to it. Add boiled peas. Cook it on a medium flame.
  4. Add oil and ghee to it. Cook the rice along with dal and peas until the rice is soft and cooked properly.
  5. Once cooked then add salt, jaggery, fresh grated coconut, tamarind paste, coriander leaves. Mix well.
  6. Take bisibele bath masala powder and add little water to make a paste. Add this to the bath.
  7. Meanwhile, prepare the tadka. Heat oil in a tadka pan. Add mustard seeds and heeng and let it splutter. Add curry leaves to it. Then switch off the gas.
  8. Pour this tadka over bisebelle bath and mix well. Cook for a minute then switch off the gas.
  9. Yummy 'Bisibele Bath' is ready to be served. Serve it with Vegetable Raita.
