Aloo Gravy – Spicy Indian Curry

Spicy Aloo gravy curry is one of my favorite curries as it goes well with rice as well as chapatis. In fact, kids love this curry too. When I don’t have many vegetables in my fridge, I turn to this quick and easy curry for lunch time.

Along with this simple curry, serve homemade pooris and coconut barfi -instant or Instant bread Rasmalai .

Ingredients

  • Boiled potatoes - 4 (chopped in small pieces)
  • Chopped green chilly - 1
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Kashmiri dry red chilli - 1
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Water - 3/4 cup
  • Pinch of asafoetida/hing
  • Oil - 2-3 tablespoon
  • Cumin/Jeera seeds - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Black pepper seeds - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Achari masala - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Chopped tomato - 1

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan on medium flame and add the hing, mustard and cumin seeds to it. Wait till seeds crackle.
  2. Add the ginger garlic paste and kashmiri dry red chillies. Saute for few seconds.
  3. Add the spices and salt to the pan and keep the flame of the gas at medium so as not to burn them.
  4. Add the chopped boiled potatoes, chopped chillies and tomatoes and mix well.
  5. Add water to the curry and let this be cooked for 10 minutes with a covered lid on medium flame.
  6. Check the curry and make sure the tomatoes and spices are cooked completely. Remove from the flame.
  7. Garnish the Spicy Aloo gravy curry with freshly chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with chapatis/rice.
