Kaachra/kaachri Mirchi chutney is a spicy tangy yummy chutney from the rurals of Rajasthan and is a famous entry in the books of Rajasthan Cuisine. There are many ways of making this delicious lip smacking chutney. I am presenting here the simplest form of it and it does not use garlic and onions.

Ingredients

  • Kaachra/Kaachri - 250 gms
  • Fresh green chillies 100 gms or less
  • Red chilly powder - 1/2 tspn
  • Jeera - 1/2 + 1/2 tspn
  • Heeng powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil - 1 tspn

Instructions

  1. Peel and deseed the kaachra or Kaachris. Cut into thin slices.
  2. Wash and pat dry the chillies. Cut into pieces.
  3. In a blender add chilli, kaachri along with salt and little jeera and grind it to a coarse paste.
  4. Heat oil. When hot, give tadka of jeera and heeng powder. Add little red chilly powder to the tadka and then add the coarsely grind mirchi kaachri.
  5. Mix all. Cook for 4-5 mins on low flame. Off the flame. Let it cool.
  6. You may also add garlic/lehsun to this chutney. Also one can add dried red chillies after soaking them in water for an hour or so.
  7. Note - Taste and check the kaachri seeds so that they are not bitter. You may use or discard the seeds depending upon your taste and liking. I discard most of them and keep only very smaller seeds.
