Mirchi Bada | Jodhpur Famous Street Food is a mouthwatering snack. It is made with the big sized green chillies. The green chillies are stuffed with spicy potato mixture then coated with gram flour batter and deep fried. It is a popular breakfast of Jodhpur and a famous street food as well. It is very quick and easy to prepare too.

Ingredients

  • Green chilli/Moti Mirchi - 4
  • FOR BATTER:-
  • Besan/Gram Flour - 1 Cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Baking Soda - a pinch
  • Ajwain/Carom seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • FOR STUFFING:-
  • Boiled potato - 4 medium sized
  • Red chilli ppowder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Garam Masala/All spice mix - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Crushed Fennel seeds/Saunf - 1 Teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Black Salt - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Dry Mango powder/Amchur - 1 Teaspoon
  • Ginger - 1inch piece finely chopped
  • Green chilli - 2 finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves - a handful finely chopped
  • Oil - for frying

Instructions

  1. PREPARING BATTER:- Take a bowl, add besan, salt, turmeric powder and mix well. Rub the ajwain between the palms and add to the besan. Add little water at a time to make a semi-thick batter. Keep aside to rest for 10 minutes.
  2. PREPARING STUFFING:-Take a bowl, mash the boiled potato.
  3. Add salt, black salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, amchur powder, crushed fennel seeds, finely chopped green chilli, finely chopped ginger and finely chopped coriander leaves. Mix well.
  4. PREPARING MIRCHI BADA:-Take green chilli, make a slit. Remove all the seeds.
  5. Meanwhile, heat oil in a kadai or pan for frying.
  6. Now, take green chilli and fill it with the stuffing.
  7. Add a pinch of baking soda in the besan batter and mix well. (Add the baking soda to the batter just before making the Mirchi Bada)
  8. Dip these stuffed chillies in the besan batter and coat them well.
  9. When the oil is hot, fry the Mirchi Bada on a medium flame.
  10. Once done, take it out on a tissue paper to soak extra oil.
  11. Yummy 'Mirchi Bada' is ready to be served. Serve hot.
