Ingredients

  • Kashmiri dried red chilli - 2 cup
  • Sesame Oil - 1 Tablespoon
  • Coriander seeds - 3/4 cup
  • Split black gram / urad dal 1/2 Cup
  • Chana dal/ Split bengal gram - 1 Tablespoon
  • Toor dal/split pigeon peas - 1/4 Cup
  • Methi/ dry fenugreek seeds - 1 Teaspoon
  • Black pepper corns - 1 and 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Whole turmeric /Haldi - 1 small piece
  • Curry leaves (fresh or dried) - 1 Cup

Instructions

  1. Take a pan, add oil and heat it. Add dried red chillies and roast it for 2 minutes on a medium flame. Set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add coriander seeds. Roast it until the colour changes on a medium flame. Keep aside.
  3. Add all dal in the same pan. Roast the dal on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes. Keep aside.
  4. Add black paper and fenugreek seeds. Roast it and add whole piece of turmeric and saute till the fenugreek seeds start spluttering. Set aside. ( Whole turmeric is better , but You can use turmeric powder instead of the whole turmeric )
  5. Add curry leaves in the heated pan. Let it dry. Cool down all the ingredients.
  6. Grind all the ingredients together to a fine powder. Sieve it to get the smooth and nice texture.
  7. 'Homemade Sambhar Powder' is ready to be used.
