Dahi Vada in Appe Patra – Oil Free Recipe

Dahi Vadas are famous North Indian chaat item. I roasted vadas in Appe Patra. Vadas are soaked in water to make soft, then soaked in curd, drizzled with khajoor(dates) chutney and then sprinkled with spices. Try it to enjoy the yummy taste.

Ingredients

  • Urad dal/ white lentils - 1 cup
  • Fresh curd/ dahi - 1 cup
  • Cashew nut/ kaju pieces - 1 tablespoon
  • Roasted cumin seeds/ bhuna jeera powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Coriander leaves/ dhaniya patta chopped - 3 tablespoon
  • Red chili/ lal mirch powder - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Dates/ khajoor chutney - 1 cup
  • Eno fruit salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil - 2 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Soak urad dal in water for 6 hours or overnight.
  2. Grind it in a mixer throughly.
  3. Add Eno fruit salt and beat the dal with spoon to make it fluffy.
  4. Add cashew nut pieces and mix well.
  5. Heat appe patra and pour some oil in each compartment.
  6. Pour vada mixture with spoon in each compartment.
  7. Roast vadas on both sides by adding oil.
  8. Soak vadas in salted water for 5-10 minutes.
  9. Squeeze out the water with a light palm pressure.
  10. Beat the curd and add salt. Pour curd on vadas.
  11. Pour dates chutney and sprinkle chili powder, cumin powder and chopped coriander leaves over it.
  12. Enjoy 'Dahi Vada in Appe Patra' as a tea time snack.
