Dahi Bade is a snack or chaat recipe where deep fried moong dal vadas are served with curd and spices. Dahi Bade is a good variation to the regular dahi balla | curd vada that is usually made with urad dal.

Ingredients

  • Moong dal - 2 cups
  • Oil - for deep frying
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Curd - 2 cups beaten till smooth and salt added
  • Green chutney - 1/2 cup
  • Tamarind chutney - 1/2 cup
  • Jeera powder - 4 tablespoon
  • Red chilli powder - 2 tablespoon
  • Black salt - as per taste
  • Chaat masala - as per taste
  • Hing/asafoetia - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Soak moong dal for 5-6 hours or overnight, drain and grind it into a coarse mixture, along with salt. Try not to add water while grinding it. Now add salt, asafoetida and cumin seeds to it. Mix it well.
  2. Heat oil in a kadai for deep frying. Once the oil is hot then grease your palm with water and make round patties | vada shapes with moong dal mixture and fry them in oil till golden brown.
  3. Transfer these moong dal bade to a bowl of hot water immediately and let it soak for at least 15 minutes.
  4. In a serving plate/bowl, take two soaked moong dal bade and add curd on top.
  5. Add a teaspoon of green chutney and tamarind chutney on top of curd
  6. Now sprinkle little bit of black salt, chaat masala, jeera powder and red chilli powder. Dahi bade is ready to eat!
